18 associations jointly submitted a petition to the government, asked the Government not take any punitive measures in the process of carrying out anti-dumping and countervailing investigations. The association includes the Brazilian Machinery Manufacturers Association and the organization associations representing other manufacturing industries, such as the Brazilian National Automobile Manufacturers Association, the Brazilian Shipbuilding Industry Association and the Brazilian Electronics and Electrical Products Industry Association.
In July 2016, the Brazilian government launched anti-dumping investigations on hot rolled coils from Russia and China. In November 2016, Brazil launched a countervailing investigation of hot rolled coil imports from China. The associations also asked to communicate directly with Brazilian President MichelTemer to solve the problem.
José Velloso, president of the Brazilian Machinery Manufacturers Association, said anti-dumping measures could lead to a disruption of Brazil's industrial competition, and Brazil's reputation in the World Trade Organization and national legal security would also be affected.
But the Brazilian Iron and Steel Association AcoBrasil has criticized the voluntary association of trade associations. "Those associations are trying to exert political pressure on double-polls." AcoBrasil Chairman Marco PololMelloLopes said on Thursday 14th (Thursday).
Brazilian machinery and equipment association said that trade protection measures may cause steel prices soaring and the increasing of industrial unemployment rate , the recent increasing of domestic hot rolled coil price was affected by anti-dumping, countervailing investigation.
But Lopes, chairman of the Brazilian Iron and Steel Association, Lopes, objected to this view: "Anti - dumping measures are legitimate means used by every country, but there are always some manufacturing companies trying to maintain this unfair import trade for their own benefit.
